Las Águilas Aztecas

During World War Two, in the wake of a German U-Boat’s having sunk a Mexican oil tanker, Mexico entered the war on the Allied side, fighting against the Axis Powers.  A unit of the Mexican Air Force, 201 Squadron, known as Las Águilas Aztecas, or “The Aztec Eagles,” flew in combat, alongside members of the American 5th Air Force, helping to liberate the Philippines from Imperial Japanese forces.  This poster depicts one of the P-47 Thunderbolts flown by the unit.
